Happy New Year To You!

Dear Parents:

May God’s Wisdom bring blessings to you and your family throughout the year 2014.

 Proverbs 2:1-8

1 My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,
turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding—
indeed, if you call out for insight
    and cry aloud for understanding,
and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
For the Lord gives wisdom;
from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.
He holds success in store for the upright,
He is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
for He guards the course of the just
and protects the way of His faithful ones.

We are happy to announce a change in our school calendar.  The GCA calendar is typically prepared well in advance of government notification of holidays.  We have learned that February 4 is also a National Holiday; therefore school will be closed and will reopen on Wednesday, February 5, 2014.

Special Events for January and February

Speech Meet: All students have been assigned a portion to memorize and will stand on the stage with a microphone to recite that portion.  The Speech Meet will be held on Monday and Tuesday, January 20-21.

100 Days of School:  Day 100 is special for the Elementary students.  January 23rd is the 100th day of school for the 2013-2014 school year at GCA.  Each elementary student will bring 100 of the same item to school.  Look around your house for ideas such as lego pieces, paper clips, or have the family pitch in to make items such as 100 snowflakes.

Hot Pot Day:  Friday, January 24 is our annual Hot Pot Day.  We will have an extended lunch time and the students will gather in their homerooms for a time of eating and talking.  Please choose something that you especially enjoy eating and bring it to school to contribute to the meal.  If possible, please volunteer to send in an electric or gas hot pot for preparing the food. I’m sorry to say that we do not have space in our kitchen for students to wash vegetables or store food.  Therefore, please send foods that are already prepared and will not spoil from sitting in the classroom from 7:30-11:30.

January 28 is the last day of classes for students before the Chinese New Year.  Teachers will have a workshop day on January 29.

Chinese New Year vacation:  January 29-February 4, 2014. No classes.

Yearbook photos will be taken on February 10.  Be sure to get plenty of rest so that you will look your best.

February 28, National Holiday

Please keep us informed of how things are going at school.  We enjoy hearing the good things that you discover at home.
