GCA Students Earn Honors at Scholar’s Cup Competition

Three middle school and two high school teams from GCA competed in the Taiwan Regional Scholar’s Cup on April 14, 2012. They competed in four areas: challenge test, persuasive essay writing, debate, and scholar’s bowl.

The teams, which consist of three students each, prepared for the competition by reading, discussing and debating the information and issues presented in nine World Scholar’s Cup resources. The theme of these resources, A World in Flux, was described with many examples and characteristics from each resource topic, namely: Music, Art, Poetry, Fiction, Film, Science, History, Current Affairs, and a special area – the Modern Metropolis.

At the Taiwan Regional, four students won individual medals for scores in the challenge test or persuasive writing, and four teams qualified for the Global Round of the World Scholar’s Cup.

The Global Round was held in Bangkok, Thailand on June 21 – 24, 2012. Over 1,000 students from schools all over the world participated in the Global Round. Three students won individual medals for scores in the challenge test and the senior level team qualified for Tournament of Champions to be held at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, USA.
